A modern-day story about finding fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, sorted by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the petroleum industry, acts as a middleman between the exploration companies and the landowners. Typically, a land manager’s job is to negotiate and enter into contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, living quarters for workers (man camps), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and mediator. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could have easily been rated an 8.5-9. Were it not for the cringy and so sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no purpose to the plot and are just annoying and offensive to West Texas women. I’m a far West Texas man myself. I understand where Sheridan is coming from in some ways, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. That being said, the script and acting are great. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on his hands if he gets rid of the very awkward horniness between the families. But again, I like Sheridan’s script (and acting) and a mostly absolutely entertaining show.
